Works well for its intended purposeReviewed by Bruce A. Ades, 2009-12-22
Pros:
Small, accurate to 100' radius. Use of Google Maps. Easy setup and
use. Outstanding customer support. Easy to place in hidden spot
inside vehicle. Really like the maximum speed indicator that shows
during each ten day run.
Cons:
Limited battery life (10 days) very high drain. Very slow download
of data. Not too intuitive in using native software and then
switching between in and Google Earth (BTW - you must download the
latest Direct X {ver 9.0c} or Google will not work properly).
You can only use this to get a general idea of where the car has
been. Not accurate enough to place at a specific address. For that,
LandAirSea has a real-time tracker with a monthly
subscription.
Must be fed the right batteryReviewed by JP, 2009-11-14
Pros: Does a really good job at tracking. Small, can hide just
about anywhere. The software is great!
Cons: Likes to feed on Lithium batteries. If the track is
important, do not use rechargables. When I used rechargables it
showed the tracked vehicles top speed at 103 MPH in a small parking
lot. Not as accurate as the mfg claims, but close enough. I'm only
talking 100ft or less and the 100ft mark was very rare.
With all of the metal in a car, I don't see why anyone would place
this item underneath the car. Seriously, how often do you do a full
search of your vehicle. Coupe, place it under the rear deck lid
away from any other electrical source. Hatchback, remove the tail
light access cover and place it there. There's more line of site in
these places than underneath the car.
OK SometimesReviewed by Ernest Hester, 2009-10-18
Unit works well sometimes but other times barely if at all.
Seems to work poorly on days with rain or heavy cloud cover (think
satellite TV signal problems).
Also in cooler temperatures it will not lock on for 5 to 30
minutes, even though the batteries read and check well into the
good.
If the unit was on the dashboard or stuck to the roof of the car
(impractical), it might work fine. Inside the car though, the
operation is intermittent.
When it works, it's pretty accurate. The software and reports are
great.
The magnet is very strong and will hold to any flat medal surface
through a hurricane, I believe.
Two stars may be a bit rough but if you were counting on the device
to work every time from inside a vehicle, you would be
disappointed.
